Keep Time Works Well In Final Trentham Trial
Keep Time’s final trial gallop for the Whyte Handicap at Trentham was six furlongs on the No. 7 grass at Riccarton yesterday. After heavy rain during the night, he had winter track conditions, but he worked with great zest and recorded Imin 24 3-ssec after dashing over the first three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. He was ridden by his race rider, E. G. Low.
Keep Time was taken north last evening by his trainer, D. M. Kerr. Fulgent galloped six furlongs keenly for the apprentice, N. Hoy. He recorded Imin 24 l-ssec after running the first three in 41 2-ssec. A start for Fulgent in the Doncaster Handicap at Washdyke was in doubt earlier in the week when he was slightly sore, but he was all right after his final trial and will run. He will be ridden by C. McDonald. Scotch Emblem (G. W. Mein) and Sizzler (T. J. Smith) were paired over six furlongs and recorded Imin 27 2-ssec. They recorded 41 3-ssec for the first three furlongs, but the pace slackened in the straight where the going was heavier. The stablemates, Adversary (A. J. Stokes) and Iroquoi (G. G. Hampton) finished six furlongs on terms in Imin 25sec. They went strongly over the first three furlongs in 40 2-ssec.
Ditched (A. J. Stokes) and Scuppered (J. R. Currie) ran from the half-mile, and recorded 41 3-ssec for the last three furlongs. Bagatelle (A. J. Stokes) equalled
that time, and Shoal (C. McDonald) could have bettered her 44 4-ssec with little trouble.
Shoal appears to be at her best for the President’s Stakes at Washdyke. Peraea (B. W. McDonald) and Madame Christine (N. Hoy) were abreast a length and a half ahead of Captain Hunt (L. McGuire) finishing three furlongs in 41 3-ssec. Captain Hunt showed ability in his first race at Washdyke last Saturday. He is a half-brother to Water Boy, and could be more than useful.
Gold Flame (J. L. Coulter) was shading Massalia (R. McDonald) after running three furlongs in 42sec on a deteriorating track. Gold Flame worked attractively. Kaseno (R. J. Blair) and Lovely Morning (A. J. Stokes) took 44sec for three furlongs, which they finished on terms.
Master Neptune (R. J. Blair) marred a run over light fences with Milling Bay (G. Gladwell) by twice running off at the second of the double. He was outjumped by his companion at the first fence, the brush at the top of the straight, and was in trouble when he ran down the first of the double. He ducked off on the inside of the second of the double, but carried on. He made no serious mistakes at the next three fences, but again ran down the first of the double, and again missed the second fence.
Milling Bay, whose form, as a hurdler has been solid, if not distinguished, is to be tested over country at Washdyke.
