ARK ROYAL AT WINGATUI

Good Trial For Trentham

"The Press’* Special Service DUNEDIN, July 4. A good trial by Ark Royal high lighted the track work at Wingatui this morning when the trials were held under adverse conditions. Ridden by his raceday jockey, B. J. Anderton, Ark Royal revelled in his task and pulled up well. His time of Imin 20 4-ssec for the last six furlongs was a bright effort, and a strong pointer that he is returning to his best. He gradually increased his pace from the mile and wap assisted over the last five furlongs by his stablemate, Peril (A. I. Powell), which still had a two lengths’ lead at the half-mile. Ark Royal gathered him in over the next two furlongs and was going well at the end to finish on terms. The last half-mile was run in 53 2-ssec, and the concluding three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Ark Royal will leave tomorrow for Trentham.

The best half-mile of the morning was recorded by All Fair (A. I. Powell). He ran the opening furlong in 13sec. and came home strongly in 52 4-ssec. Peril (Doncaster Handicap) and All Fair (Caroline Handicap) will miss their Washdyke engagements. Peril will probably race at the Waimate meeting the following week. Irish Brawl is another Wingatui candidate for the South Canterbury meeitng which will miss his engagement. This will allow his trainer, L. W. Hare, to ride Chief View in the Strathallan Hack Handcap. Ben Ledi (B. P. Kennedy) and The Ranger (R. J. Skelton) were not hurried over half a mile, running the opening furlong in 13 3-ssec, and completing the distance in 55 2-ssec. _ , Lady Newfield (R. L. Murray) took 55 3-ssec, after recording 14sec for the opening furlong. Bob wood (R. J. Skelton) was not hurried to complete his task by coming home the last three furlongs in 41sec. Paper Clip (B. J. Anderton) and Tribal Maid (B. P. Kennedy) finished two lengths in front of Fairlight Mac (H. T. Anderton) at the end of six furlongs in Imin 23sec, the first three furlongs in 40sec.
