Banks Peninsula Racing Club
Sir,—After a unanimous decision earlier in the year by the committee of the Banks Peninsula Racing Club to delete trots from their programmes, and the consequent allotment of a trotting permit to the Motukarara Club, the recent “back-somersaulting’ ’ decision of the members, to reinstate trotting events is, to say the least, surprising. The function of a racing club is to provide events for race or galloping horses. Will the executive of the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club reciprocate and include galloping events in its October programme? Of course they won’t; they are far too one-eyed. Serious repercussions will, of course, follow this unwise move.—Yours, etc., DISGUSTED.
July 2, 1957. [The president of the Banks Peninsula Racing Club (Mr I. C. Gray) made 4he following comment* when this letter war re-
ferred to‘him: “(1) The decision to delete the trots was not unanimous. (2) The meeting at which it was passed was not a full committee meeting. (3) The club was formed for the purpose of providing races ‘for race horses, trotting and pacing horses.’ This will be seen in Rule 2 of the club’s rules containing the objects for which the club was formed.”]
