Radiation

Sir, —The use of X-rays has been discussed quite frequently of late in your news columns and I note with interest your report that in the United States they discourage tuberculosis X-raying for children under 15 years of age. The New Zealand Government’s Immigration Department insists on chest X-rays for five-year-olds, irrespective of the health of their parents, before they leave Britain. I would like some official comment on the frequent use of X-rays by dental surgeons, as many small school children seem to be subjected to these at least twice a year.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. July 4, 1957.
