ST. MARGARET’S BALL

Novel Decorations Of Winter

Guests at the annual ball of the St. Margaret’s College Old Girls’ Association held at the Winter Garden last evening walked in on a wintry scene. At the entrance stood a life-size snowman, complete with, bowler hat and bright muffler. Two more of these impressive figures were by the orchestral dais.

On the wall above the official alcove were large murals of schoolgirls playing in the snow. These were the work of Mrs McK. Pugh. White-painted branches decorated the alcoves and hanging from the ceiling were troughs of “snowy” branches and red berries. Similar decorations were on the supper tables.

During the evening, paper hats shaped like winter sports caps were distributed. Before the last dance hot soup was served. More than 400 guests were received bv Miss M. Best, president of the association.

Official guests included Miss J. P. Crosher. headmistress and patron of the association; Miss K. Parry Smith, assistant mistress; Mr and Mrs W. L. Partridge and Mr and Mrs Duff Jones (TimaHi). Other specially invited guests were representatives of the following kindred assc ciations:— Wanganui Collegiate. Christ’s College, Christchurch Boys’ High School, St. Andrew’s College. Villa Maria and Christchurch West High School. A ming-blue and gold shot corded-silk frock patterned with small black dots was worn by Miss Best. The straight-panelled skirt was trimmed with bands df black satin. Miss Crosher wore a frock of black and rose chantilly lace, cut on simple lines with a fitting bodice and full skirt.

The secretary, Mrs E. A. Guillermo, wore a pale green cordedtaffeta frock with a very full skirt. A large softly-folded collar crossed in the front and was caught at the waistline with a large gold rose.
