Public Inspection Of Cobalt Unit It was now possible to arrange for public inspection of the cobalt therapy unit at the Christchurch Hospital, the hospital committee reported to yesterday’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The unit will be open on July 6, admission being by ticket.
The permission o*f Sir Arthur Sims, who gave the unit, for a plaque to be erected will be sought after the wording has been decided.
Mr L. Downes had completed his adjustments to the unit, which,' at present, was performing very well and giving no .trouble, reported the hospital committee. Parking at Burwood. — The provision of parking facilities at the Burwood Hospital will be discussed on its next visit to the hospital by the hospital committee with a deputation from the Waimairi County Council. Plastic Surgery.— The DirectorGeneral of Health (Dr. J. Cairney) has concurred in the board’s proposal that. its visiting plastic surgeon should make regular visits to other boards. X-Ray Department.—An expenditure of £9900 on alteration to the X-ray Department has been approved by the Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Hanan). The work will be carried out by the board’s superintendent of work«. Smoke Nuisance. Improvements to. the boiler plant at the Burwood Hospital are expected. The board’s architect has been asked to make a specialist report on the elimination of smoke nuisance in all the board’s institutions.
Engineering Services.—Mr R. Childs, assistant engineer, will begin duty on July 1 at the Cashmere Hospital to observe the installation of engineering services with the object of his ultimately succeeding to the position of charge engineer there. Lift Maintenance.— The finance committee reported that only ope tender, that of the Otis Elevator Company, of £42 a quarter' for 20 years and from year to year thereafter for the maintenance of the new elevator in Nos. 7 and 8 wards at the Christchurch Hospital had been received. It was accepted. The board has the right to cancel the contract at any time on giving three months' notice.
Emu Attacks Car.— Women motorists arriving in Darwin today reported having had their car attacked by an emu while travelling 70 miles south of Tennant Creek. Mrs Toby Brown said the emu tried to reach her companion, Mrs Eileen Fitzer, through the side window, but could not break the glass. She accelerated and left it behind.— Darwin, June 26.
