UNIVERSITIES MATCH

Otago And Lincoln Draw In a most entertaining match, Canterbury Agricultural College. Lincoln, and Otago University ‘drew, 3all, in their annual fixture yesterday at the Lincoln College grounds. Play was fast and spectacular throughout, with both sides throwin« the-ball about in fine style. The Otago University back line Impressed with its speed. All its members were quick off the mark, and not afraid to run with the ball. That they scored only one try was a tribute to the stout-hearted defence and cover-defence of the Lincoln team. . For most of the match Otago attacked, but found the home team’s defence too good. The teams were:—

Otago University.—S. Leary; D. Tolhurst, W. Hihaka, J. Robinson; E. Edwards. G. Willoughby; B. Hamilton; B. Burkhart, R. Parkes, N. Jones, D. Henderson, E. Squires, D. Calder, G. McLeod. W. Warden. Lincoln College.—S. Childs; W McCaughan, B. Seddon, N. Darroch; T. Marks, A. Coleman; T. Bates; M. Keene, S. Cull. N. Hobbs, B. Cashmore, R. Tait, A. Taggart, A. Knox. R. Firth.

The Lincoln College backs were more impressive on defence. The three-quarters, McCaughan, Seddon, and Darroch, all tackled well, with Seddon outstanding. Good on attack, Seddon was the best of the home team’s backs. Coleman excelled in cover-defence, and he gained long stretches of ground with line-kicks, - especially early in the match. Bates, at half-back, passed well. ■ The Lincoln forwards were very slow to heel the ball from scrums and rucks,, but apart from this gave a first-class display. Several forwards tired towards the end of the match because of the fast pace. Keene covered a vast amount of ground from No. 8 position, and Cashmore played well in the loose. Cashmore gained his share of the ball in the line-out. and was ably assisted by D. Russell, who replaced Hobbs near the-end of the match. Hobbs played a grand game, although obviously in great pain from a rib injury. Cull gave a good display on the side of the scrum. Knox and Firth were best in the tight.

The best Otago player was the full-back, Leary He saved well throughout, and his line-kicking was of a' high standard. Hihaka and Willoughby were very good also. Hihaka scoped the only trv of the match. Parkes was the best of the forwards. He played well in the loose, and gained most of the ball in the line-outs. Jones and Warden also impressed.

Mr W. H. Fright was referee. MASSEY BEATS AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, June 26. Massey Agricultural College today beat Auckland University College by 19 points to 12 at Eden Park.
