CONTROL OF INDUSTRY
Labour Party’s Policy LONDON, June 25. The British Labour Party’s national executive committee today unanimously approved a 15,000word policy statement on State control of 10 industries. According to political quarters, the new plan, entitled “Public Ownership,” makes no specific proposals for taking over any particular industries or companies. But it restates the party’s belief in public control as essential to maximum economic efficiency. The guiding principle of the document is selective investment. Labour leaders plan to buy up shares in selected firms rather than take them over whole. By this investment, the Government would exert control over these firms, political quarters said. The statement, which is to be published on July 18, will be debated at the party’s annual conference in October.
