Qantas “Round The World Service”

(Rec. 11 p.m.) BRISBANE, June 26.

Qantas Empire Airways will become the first international airline to operate an “around-the-world” route, by a decision of the Australian Government today. The Civil Aviation Minister (Senator Paltridge) said the United States would allow Qantas to operate through New York to Europe in return for extra air traffic concessions from Australia. In the past, Senator Paltridge said, Qantas could carry its Pacific passengers only to San Francisco. The new Qantas route had a big commercial importance—especially the dollar-earning potential. The route would ensure the maximum commercial exploitation for the fleet of Boeing jetliners which would operate in regular service in 1959.
