CURRENT NOTES
Indoor bowls made up the programme of entertainment at the Christchurch branch of the League for the Hard of Hearing at the clubrooms last evening. The skips were Mesdames L. Churchill and J. McGregor. The games were played under the leadership of Mr D. Darroch. Coloured slides taken on his recent tour of Britain and Europe were shown by Mr M. W. Beaven at a recent meeting of the Middle Watch of the Navy League. The proceeds were devoted to the Sea Cadet Corp. The visitor was welcomed by the president (Miss Noeline Nutt).
A new member, Mrs Shearer, was welcomed by the chairman (Miss R. A. Alston) at the June meeting of the Associates’ Group of the National Council of Women. It was decided to hold a bring and buy sale at the Jul. meeting to establish a fund from which flowers or cards for sick members could be purchased. The guest speaker, Mrs Roberts a traffic officer from the Transport Department addressed the group on the new traffic regulations. She asked that women drivers make clear and definite hand signals. In thanking the speaker, Mrs Acherson commented that the discussion which followed Mrs Roberts’s talk was proof of the interest she had aroused.

Rickerby Cup (aggregate 1 points), Mrs W. N. Rathbun. The Mount Pleasant Garden Club held its annual meeting recently. Officers elected were:— ' Patron. Mrs V. Edgar; president, i Mrs T. C. Deavoll; vice-presidents, Mrs N. Holt and Mrs G. Stevenson; secretary, Mrs W. D. M. ; Jamieson; treasurer, Mrs J. E. ; Wood; committee, Mesdames J. Ficken, J. C. Harbut, N. Holst. J Norcliffe, P. H. Nye, G. Stevenson. F. M. Wemyss and A. S. Wright. Cup winners for the year were:—Hunt cup. Mrs J. Ficken; Tiso cup, Mrs R. P. Jameson; Club cup, Mrs J. C. Harbut; Allen cup, Mrs G. Stevenson. Other prizewinners were: Mesdames H. A. Hunt, J. Ficken, V. Edgar, J. E. Wood, C. Allington and T. C. Deavoll. The St. John Ambulance Social Club held its annual meeting recently. The following officers were elected: patron, The Mayor, Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.; patroness, the Mayoress; president, Mr J. H. Rhodes; vicepresidents, Dr. W. Gordon Rich, Mr B. J. McKenna, and Miss Butler; chairman, Miss R. Ferguson; deputy-chairman, Mrs N. Mclntosh; secretary - treasurer, Mrs A. D. Woolford; trustees, Miss R. Ferguson and Mrs A. D. Woolford; honorary auditor, Mr P. C. Browne; committee, Mesdames N. Mclntosh, T. Thompson and A. D. Woolford, Misses R. Ferguson, Busson, Stanton and Stephens. The Ist Christchurch Battalion of the Girls’ Life Brigade held its competitions recently. These included sections for cast-time moulds and handwriting, also a basketball tournament. At a social evening the Commandant (Major M. Holland) presented the Battalion Cup to . the winning company, 29th Christchurch (Colombo Street Baptist). Second place was , gained by 15th Christchurch Company (Shirley Methodist), and third by 13th Christchurch Company (St. George’s Presbyterian), ;
