BAN ON ROADSIDE HOARDINGS

Wait emat a, County

Decision

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 12.

The Wajtemata County Council has decided to abolish all roadside hoardings in the county by 1961. Under the council’s new policy all hoardings in the county will require a licence, and licences will be endorsed only until 1961. Hoardings must not exceed 6ft by 3ft. There will be a total prohibition of private signs on public property. The council’s decision was welcomed today by Mr E. T. Brown, secretary of the Auckland Automobile Association, and Mr S. W. O. Brown, the director of planning for the Auckland Regional Planning Authority, as being desirable for both aesthetic and traffic safety reasons.
