Boy In Hypnotic Trance

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, May 5. John Howden, aged 14, was bored at a model aircraft club meeting in a garden shed, so he thought idly about a book on hypnotism he had been reading before going to the meeting. “Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep," he softly commanded his friend, Bryan Masson, aged 14. who sat next to him. Bryan suddenly became strangely silent. His friends in the shed thought he was pretending to be under hypnosis, but Bryan was really in a trance. A doctor discovered this when Bryan was taken to hospital by the father of one of the boys who was worried by the strange look on Bryan’s face. The doctor shook Bryan, but could not wake him, so an am-1 bulance took him home to sleep it off. Nine hours later he woke up. none the worse for being under hypnotic influence. His friend has handed his book on hypnotism to the police. "1 will never again put anyone to sleep.” he said.
