Bob Gutowski, of Occidental College, who last week-end bettered the world outdoor pole vault record with a mark of 15ft 81in, won his event at 15ft 52in in the Southern Californian Conference championships! last night. Gutowski, who was second in the pole vault in the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, then missed in three tries at 15ft 9in. World Junior Discus Record (N.Z. Press Association—Copy right) (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) LONDON, May 4. Michael Lindsay, of London, Britain’s brightest field events performer for years, broke the world* junior discus record today with a throw of 193 ft sin. It was 9ft 2lin better than the previous junior record held by A. Oerter (United States) now the Olympic champion. Lindsay was competing for London, which beat Paris in an inter-schools athletics match by 84 points to 67.
