Lectures To Clergy School

The Canon Missioner of the Diocese of Manchester (the Rev. Canon E. O. Sheila) will visit Christchurch from May 13 to 18 at the invitation of the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) to lecture to the annual clergy schools of the Diocese of Christchurch. Canon Sheild. a New Zealander, has been in the Dominion for several months on an extended holiday. He is a friend of Bishop Warren, with whom he was a chaplain in. Italy, Canon Sheild and his wife will stay at Bishopscourt

Subjects for his lectures will be “The Church in the Bible,” “Becoming a Christian,” “The Church on Sunday,” “The Church on Week Days,” and “The Church in the Neighbourhood.” After graduating LL.B, from the University of New Zealand, and M.A. in theology from Oxford University, Canon Sheild was ordained in Manchester in 1936. From 1939 to 1942 he served at Lyall Bay and Upper Hutt. During the war he was a chaplain in the Pacific and in Italy. Later, he was appointed tutor at Cuddesdon Theological College, Oxford. Since 1949 he has been Diocesan Missioner of Manchester. In 1954 he was appointed honorary canon of Manchester Cathedral.
