Six Injured When Bus Leaves Road
(New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, May 1. Six persons were rushed to the Rotorua Public Hospital after a New Zealand Railways Road Services bus left the road and ploughed through a shallow embankment near Mamaku this morning. Three were admitted, but their injuries are not serious.
The impact threw the front wheels of the bus back lift, twisted the chassis, and bent some of the panelling in the front. The bus, carrying 18 passengers, was bound from Hamilton to Rotorua. It is believed that a mechanical failure caused the accident.
Those admitted to hospital were: Elizabeth Baker, aged 19, of 5 Garaway street, Whakatane; Rona John, aged 21, of 29 Hobson street, Wellington; and Mr Schwartz, aged 18, of Robinson street, Cambridge.
All suffered minor injuries, and their condition is satisfactory.
