ATHLETIC PARK PURCHASE

Four Produce Firms Interested

Athletic Park, Woolston, has been sold by the Canterbury Rugby Football League for £lOOO an acre—about £B5OO. Four Christchurch produce firms are interested in the deal. '.Mr H. E. Radley, managingdirector of Radley Brothers, Ltd., said last evening that the three other firms interested, beside his own, Were the Park Davis Trading Company, Ltd., the Macfarlane Trading Company, Ltd., and Market Gardeners, Ltd. “You can say that we are all interested,” he said. “We have not yet considered the matter of zoning, but will submit our thoughts on the matter to the Christchurch City Council in due course.”

The price for the property was £lOOO an acre, said the president of the league (Mr L. G. Amos), last evening. The league was offered the use of the ground for five years, at 5£ per cent, of the purchase price, he added. This the league considered too much. He understood that the use of the ground was then offered to the Canterbury Rugby Union. The Canterbury Rugby Union had signed no agreement for the use of the ground, said the senior vice-president (Mr H. C. Blazey) last evening. Some minor alterations might be made to the ground—which he said was “a good ground”—but again the question of tenure arose. The present understanding was that it should be used by the union for this year.
