PORT AMENITIES DECLINED

Requests by the port amenities committee were rejected by the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday, on the recommendation of the works committee.

The board decided that parking space was not available for cars of shipping companies and waterside workers, and not to give any undertaking regarding making the present tally clerks’ premises near No. 6 shed available as a wetweather shelter for watersiders until alternative sites were fixed for buildings which had to be removed to permit the construction of the elevated roadway.

The amenities committee will also be informed that no undertaking can be given at present that if the workshop near the Centennial Hall was demolished the space could be utilised for a bicycle shed.
