MUSIC STUDY IN LONDON
Teresa Fahey To Give Recital
Mrs Teresa Beaven, a Christchurch violinist who is probably better known as Teresa Fahey, will give a recital on Saturday evening. Mrs Beaven spent five years studying in England after she had been awarded a scholarship by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London. She studied for four years at the Royal College under Albert Sammons, and later under Alan Loveday. London was a very exciting place for anyone who was interested in music, and in some respects was the musical centre of the world, said Mrs Beaven. She played in various string groups, and took part in a number of lunch-hour recitals in London churches. She also played as a member of an orchestra on television, but found the lights and the cameras, particularly when they moved in for close-up shots, rather distracting. As a member of a students’ orchestra Mrs Beaven made a tour of southern Germany. The concerts were always well atand the audiences were wildly enthusiastic. It was a fairly strenuous but enjoyable tour, as the orchestra played in a different town practically every evening, said Mrs Beaven. Mrs Beaven said she noticed a great deal of difference in the musical life of New Zealand when she returned home. It had been given an impetus by the National Orchestra.
Her programme on Saturday evening will include Bach’s Chaconne in D minor for solo violin. Beethoven’s G Major Sonata. Beethoven’s Romance in F Major, and two works by Bloch.
