DEERSTALKERS FOUND
Both In Good Health
(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 29. The two missing Hamilton deerstalkers, Messrs Ronald George Cornwall and William Heaslip, were found six miles north of the junction of the Heao and Tangarakau rivers at 6 p.m. today. Chief-Inspector W. R. Miller, of Wanganui, said tonight that the men were on the eastern bank of the Heao river. They were found by a party of the Wanganui Search and Rescue Organisation. When half his men who had been searching south-eastwards from Tokirima for nearly a week were withdrawn today, the controller (Mr S. Matson) had enough searchers left for two parties, said Chief Inspector Miller. It was one of these which found Messrs Cornwall and Heaslip. The party which found the men, who are said to be in good physical condition, will come out at Whangamomona, and is expected early tomorrow afternoon. Detailed instructions on the route were sent out tonight. It was expected that the party would camp where another party had camped the night before, cross the Heao river by logs, go south about a quarter of a mile to easier country, and then follow an already much-traversed spur. The party should be met by another on the main ridge of this spur, and it is believed that it will then be taken through to the Whangamomona road and to Whangamomona. A recent washout on the Whangamomona road may make access difficult for vehicles. Footprints Found Hopes that the men were in the area were raised this afternoon when footprints of two men and a dog were found beside the Heao river. From the prints it was deduced that the men were travelling strongly and in good health. After the footprints were found it was decided to send a party which had remained at the junction of the Heao and Tangarakau rivers upstream some miles to the falls. Meanwhile another party was ordered to take up the first party’s position at the junction of the two rivers.
