AIR CONDITIONING IN CANBERRAS

(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) MELBOURNE, April 20. A new type of air-conditioning system, which will increase the efficiency and endurance of Australian jet bomber crews, is being installed in all Royal Australian Air Force Canberra jets. According to the Melbourne “Age” aviation correspondent, the new system will give the crews the revolutionary advantage of being able to operate in all conditions in light summer flying suits, instead of the heavy clothing normally needed in high altitude flight. The system differs considerably from that in the Royal Air Force Canberras in England, where the fall in temperature with altitude is less extreme than in the tropics. e It consists of two integrated systems, the heating system and the cooling system, which use a common system of ducting. Only the heating part of the system is being made operative at the present time, the correspondent said.
