A Royal Air Force crew of three and 24 soldiers were killed when a Valetta transport aircraft crashed soon after taking off from Aqaba. There were no survivors in the crash.

Two of the men, Trooper A. Baldwin, and Trooper N. Baldwin, of Bournemouth, Hampshire, were twins. A full Army causalty list has not yet been released. The men were being evacuated under the recent pact to close British .bases in Jordan. The aircraft was to land at Habbaniya, Iraq, on its way to Britain.
