DROP IN PRICE OF PETROL

Resellers Caught By Surprise Thousands of pence will be lost next week-end by service station proprietors who had stocked thousands of gallons of petrol to meet the demand by Easter motorists. Yesterday’s announcement of a drop of Id in the retail price caught them by surprise. “One company offered me several hundred gallons on Tuesday.” said Mr A. C. Rhodes, of Riccarton, yesterday. “But I have been cautious since the first Suez price change and told, them to come back on Thursday. My tanks were fairly low, and I shall not lose as much as some resellers.” Although the resellers gained when the Suez surcharge was made, many of them had little in their tanks. Price changes are not announced in advance.
