Auratum Lily Bulbs

Sir, —The New Zealand Lily Society has received many inquiries about the auratum lily bulbs which are for sale throughout New Zealand. These unacclimatised bulbs have been imported from Japan. They have no basal roots, and many of the bulbs have shoots inches long. These bulbs will attempt to grow according to their natural season, which is our winter. The shoots are frosttender and will succumb to the cold weather. The basal roots are most important if the lily bulb is to grow on next year. We feel that the public should know these facts.—Yours, etc., S. G. PREBBLE, Hon. secretary, N.Z. Lily Society. April 16, 1957.
