Food Poisoning

When two women informed the Department of Health in Auckland that they had had an attack of food poisoning, the department traced an outbreak involving 27 persons who had been infected at a dinner. The Medical Officer of Health (Dr. A. S. Wallace) said it was found that some of the staff who had prepared the meal were carriers of a type of staphylococcus. Commenting on an increase in reported cases of dysentery—26 in March—Dr. Wallace said that 14 were reported in an outbreak in a city hostel, where investigation suggested that the cook was the source of infection.
