Tribe Burns Down Church
ZEERUST (Transvaal), April 14. Members of the Baphurutse tribe at Dinokana today burned down an Anglican church in protest against yesterday’s deposition and banishment of a hereditary chief.
Yesterday many Africans were reported injured in rioting at Dinokana after the banishment of the chief, Abraham Moiloa, for rejecting a Government ultimatum to order the women of the tribe to accept identification passes. Police squads went to Dinokana today to quell any future outbreaks of violence.
Two Saved From Snowslide
(Rec. 10 p.m.) DURANGO (Colorado), April 14. A woman and a baby were buried for 10 minutes in a snowslide that roared down on a mountain highway and trapped them today. They were admitted to hospital suffering from shock and “near suffocation.” ' Three others were swept off the highway when the small avalanche ripped down the slopes of Red Mountain, near Silverton, last night. Fast-working highway crews were credited with saving the lives of the woman and child, who were buried . under nearly five feet of snow.
