PILOTS FOR AIRLINES
Request Made To R.A.F. (N.Z Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, April 15. Abou; 200 Royal Air Force aircrew below the rank of squadron leader had asked to be considered. as the result of a request by civil airlines to the Royal Air Force commands for help in recruiting aircrew, the “Manchester Guardian” said today.' The newspaper said that the airlines’ request was signalled to all R.A.F. commands some weeks ago. Details of candidates would be submitted to the corporations for them to make firm offers of employment. The Air Ministry would then decide whether the R.A.F. could spare the men. The “Manchester Guardian” said it understood that the Ministry would consider releasing pilots up to four years early. The British Overseas Airways Corporation needed about 150 pilots in the next two years and British European Airways would be able to absorb about 40 this year, the paper said.
