FLOODING OF BUILDING
Hand-Basin Tap Left Running
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 14 Water from a hand-basin tap flooded the bottom three ffoors of a Wellington building last night and this morning. It had not been decided late tonight if the police wouid be asked to investigate the incident, which occurred in the Southern Cross building, Brandon street. In the last few months there have been several mysterious happenings in the building and the owners have yet to determine if the flooding was an accident. The water came from a tap in a toilet on the second floor. Someone had plugged the basin and left the tap running. At 10.45 a.m. today, a tenant called at the building to be met with running water at the front door. The tap was turned off, and the tenants whose premises were flooded gathered and took stock of the damage. Water about an inch deep lay over the second, first and ground floors. There was a foot of water in the basement. This afternoon, the Wellington Fire Brigade was called to pump the water out of the basement.
Eight tenants were affected by the flood. They included- insurance companies, sharebrokers, public accountants and a radio repair workshop.
