The Duke’s “Fairy Godmother”
N woman the Duke of Edinburgh has called his fairy godmother has been visiting London recently—Mrs Cobina Wright, the Hollywood columnist, says a London correspondent. The Duke of Edinburgh has been a friend of Mrs Wright for
about 20 years. He and her daughter were childhood friends. During the war, Mrs Wright sent parcels to him, and wrote him cheery letters. She received personal invitations from him to attend the Royal wedding in 1947 and the Coronation in 1953.
Mrs Wright has been in London recently as an escort to Mrs Nancy Cooke, who is touring 15 countries as the first American “ambassadress of fashion.”
Mrs Cooke, mother of foui children, was chosen for the toui from among 900,000 people who took part in a hosiery firm’s slogan contest. She is meeting the leading fashion designers of each country she visits and exchanging an American-designed outfit for a native creation.
