MOTOR RACING EVENTS AT LAKE BRYNDWR

Two New Records Established Two records were broken at a meeting held by the Canterbury Car Club on the Lake Bryndwr circuit on Sunday afternoon. Driving an XKI4O Jaguar coupe, F. C. Cantwell clipped 3.4 sec off the old time of 42.95ec. His time was 39.55ec. The other record-breaker was D. Campbell. He set a new time of 36.55ec for one lap in his small but extremely fast Cooper Mark VIII. The only accident of the afternoon occurred as E. F. Sprague, of Timaru. entered the main straight in his Alfa Romeo. Trying hard to overtake the slower competitors, Sprague momentarily lost control. His car slid across the track and clipped the bushes bordering the track for nearly 50 yards. The car crossed the track again before jumping down a low bank and coming to rest in some bushes. Sprague was unhurt. A crowd of more than 3000 persons watched the racing in perfect weather. Water ski-ing and aquaplaning demonstrations were given by members of the Lake Bryndwr Aquatic Club.
