OUTSTANDING BOOK

Famous Winners In Britain The English racing writers, David Livingstone - Learmonth and John Hislop, have given raccmg men a book of lasting interest in “Famous Winners of the British Turf, 1949-1955.” They have selected 38 outstanding winners from those years, to provide a record of the winners of the classic races, Ascot Gold Cup and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Full descriptions of racing careers and extended pedigrees are given, and the book gains much in value through the excellent photographs and colour reproductions of seme of the outstanding winners.

Pinza, Tulyar, the great filly Meld three champions which have made outstanding contributions to racing in the last few years—come into the period under review and many racing enthusiasts will count themselves fortunate in having such a ready reference to their records. The writers will be doing good service to racing and the thoroughbred industry even outside Great Britain if they continue this work, and place on record the deeds and the backgrounds of the latest champions and those of the future. By doing so, their latest work will gain further in orestige and value. Charges Dismissed The charges laid against W. J. Broughton, rider, and G. W. B. Greene, the trainer of Zariba, of not running the horse on his merits in the Kia Ora Handicap at Te Aroha on April 6, have been dismissed by the judicial committee of the Te Aroha Jockey Club. — (P.A.)
