FINAL DAY AT AWAPUNI
Main Event To Silent Scott (New Zealand Preet Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, April 14. Finishing with a brilliant run in the straight, Silent Scot beat the favourite, Dune, in the Manawatu Trotting Handicap, the main event on the final day of the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting at Awapuni on Saturday. Dune looked likely to win, but Silent Scot’s great finishing burst was too good. Speculation came /rom last at the straight to run third, and Sleek Line was a good fourth.
Finishing with a well-timed run. Bobbin Head took the Stewards’ Handicap decisively from the wellsupported Legislate, which took over with three furlongs to go. Perekop just beat Stormy Belwin for third.
and further back Pukepoto and Astoria dead-heated for fifth. The winning double paid £62 14s 6d for £l. The day was fine and there was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £30,070. J. Grant, the driver of Shana in the Terrace End Handicap, was fined £lO for careless driving. P. Steedman, driver of Silent Soot in the Palmerston North Handicap, was fined £5 for undue use of the whip.
