A demonstration on the making of sprays was given by Mrs-W. K. Blow at the April meeting of the Canterbury Women’s Club garden circle. Mrs W. D. Bunt presided. Mrs Hayman 2, Mrs Hulston 3. Mrs Mavis Winder, the Christchurch novelist, was a guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Workers’ Educational Association Writers’ Fellowship. She spoke of her dealings with agents and publishers and of her own methods in writing. She gave members of the fellowship much useful and practical information. The fellowship was also addressed recently by Mr Leo Bensemann of the Caxton Press. He outlined the progress of writing in New Zealand and showed many beautiful books containing the work of New Zealand writers published by the Caxton Press.

The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Lyttelton Plunket Mothers’; Club: President, Mrs W. Geayleyji vice-presidents, Mesdames I. Wales and J. Mahar; secretary, Mrs P. Sinclair; treasurer, Mrs D. Dailey; committee, Mesdames J. l Morse, T. W. Pluck, L. Gilmour,! H. Read, N. Payne, J. A. McKenna, I Trood, E. Allen, E. McLean, R. Ross, L. Fosbender, F. Barrett, M. Beecroft, W. Beecroft, and M. Thurlow.

An outline of the objects of the novement were given by the Dominion president and organiser (Mrs C. Plumridge) at the inlugural meeting of the Shirley Townswomen’s Guild. The Doninion secretary (Mrs L. Collett) icted as secretary for the meeting. Representatives of other Christchurch guilds were present and nembers of the Christchurch Area ?ederatioh were the hostesses. Members of the Upper Riccarton ?uild offered to provide the entertainment for the guild’s first nonthly meeting. The following jfficers were elected: President, Mrs F. A. Smith; secretary, Mrs J. Jarvis; treasurer, Mrs H. Boyce; committee—Mesdames H. Hayes, R. H. Stewart, A. Thomas, W. Orr, M. West and L. Gilmour. The Rev. D. D. Thorpe addressed the monthly meeting of the Young Wives’ Group of St. John’s Church. The talk was entitled “Life is Commitment.” This was followed by an open discussion of questions raised at the recent leaders’ day meeting which was held at Bishopscourt.

An increased credit balance was reported at the seventh annual meeting of the Prebbleton subbranch of the Plunked Society, which was held recently. Mrs Mawson traced the history of the society and urged members to endeavour to rouse more interest among the mothers who avail themselves of the Plunket nurses’ services. Mrs G. Browman presided and welcomed Mrs Mawson, president of the Ellesmere branch; Officers were elected as follows: president, Mrs G. Browman: vice-presidents. Mrs H. Claughton (senior), Mrs E. Prebble (junior); secretary, Mrs H. Prebble; treasurer, Mrs H. Claughton; delegates to branch meetings, Mesdames Erowman and E. Prebble; committee, Mesdames W. Bell, H. Claughton, R. Corbett, H. Dellaca. D. Grice, W. Hartnell, J. Hartnell jun., A. Hayston, E. Prebble, H. Prebble, R. Page, W. Toon, and M. Webb.

More girls to train at the Stratheona Training Centre were needed, said Mrs Waghorn in an address at the annual meeting of the Halswell branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Office-8 were elected as follows: president, Mrs R. Lang; vice-presidents, Mesdames Guileford, Bearman, and De Fillippi; secretary, Mrs E. G. Robertson; treasurer, Mrs E. Gates; committee, Mesdames Muir, Kolkman, Cox, Hann, Symes, Hamilton, Shaw, Gallagher, and Miss Pike; sales table convener, Mrs Hayes; delegates to provincial executive, Mesdames Lang, Gates and Chapman; advisory members, Mesdames Lang, and Gates.
