GROCER’S LIQUOR SALES
40 Dozen Of Beer A Week

The accused had been selling 40 dozen bottles of beer a week for the last three years, said the police prosecutor (Mr F. O. Scott) when William Richard Davies, grocer, of Adelaide road, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to a charge of keeping liquor for sale without a licence.
Mr J. S. Hanna, S.M., fined him the maximum of £lOO. He imposed a fine of £5 on a charge of selling liquor without a licence, to which Davies also pleaded guilty. The Magistrate made an order for the confiscation of the liquor found.
Mr Scott said Davies had been very frank, and said he sold beer for 36s a dozen, a large bottle of spirits for £2, and a half bottle for £l. When the police searched the shop they found 287 bottles of beer and 15 bottles of spirits. ‘
