Ashburton Rugby
Sir,—ln view of reports in your paper which confirm the lease of the Ashburton A. & P. grounds by the local Rugby Union, there are several questions which the people of Ashburton, as Rugby supporters and ratepayers, would be glad to have cleared up. (1) Did the union collect money from the public for the specific purpose of building facilities on the new grounds in the Ashburton Domain? (2) Did the union ask the council for the development of the new grounds? (3) Can the management committee Justify Its actions in view of a recommendation from delegates at the annual meeting that the borough council be reapproached on the matter? <4) Can the management committee of the union produce proof that the borough council refused further discussion?—Yours, etc., SOLD A DUMMY. Ashburton, April 4, 1957. [The secretary of the Mid-Can-terbury Rugby Football Union replied as follows: "The copy of the letter received by your editor from a correspondent was placed before my union at its weekly meeting and I was instructed to reply advising that the union does not feel inclined to reply to anonymous letters, but if your correspondent would care to meet the president of the union, Mr B. Doig, he would be given the answers *o his queries.”!
