53.8 d Average At March Sale

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 12. The average price of wool at the third main Auckland auction on March 22, rose sharply to 53.77 d per lb, according to figures issued today by the secretary of the Auckland Wool Brokers Association (Mr A. C. Rains). This is an increase of 1.79 d per lb, or 3.4 per cent., from the average price at the January sale. Compared with the average price at the corresponding sale last year, the price in March of this season represents a rise of 27.5 per cent. Wool sold at auction in Auckland in the current season to date has yielded £8.719,307, from 120.867 bales, against £7,420,627 from 115,789 bales in the same period of the 1955-56 season. S 9 bales offered in March. 29.024 bales were sold to yield gross proceeds of £2.240.967. At the March y £? r ’ 28 - 684 bales yielded £1,814,340. The average price a bale was £77 4s 2d. against £6l 2s 5d last year. ,I'he total proceeds of wool sold Auckland sales during the 1955-56 season yielded £8.942,819 from 141.720 bales, against £10.071,065 from 149,436 bales in the 1954-55 season. Based on present prices, total proceeds for the current season may reach £ll million. The fifth and final main Auckland sale of the current season will be b? l ’* ° n , 15 « when at least 30,000 bales will be offered.
