FISHING VESSEL LOST
Sole Occupant Safe
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL. April 11.
The Bisonia. a small Bluff fishing vessel, has been lost in Dusky Sound, but her skipper is; safe. The Bisonia sank at' Fur Seal Harbour. What caused her to sink was not known in Invercargill tonight. A radio message was received that the skipper of the Bisonia (Mr M. O. Barker) had been picked up by another fishing vessel, the Marion Bay, and that he was safe and well. The message added that the Bisonia had sunk, but there was no indication whether she could be salvaged. A few years ago. the Bisonia sank in the sounds area, but was refloated by other fishing vessels and towed back to Bluff for refitting. The Bisonia, with only Mr Barker on board, had been working in the Sounds area for several weeks, returning from each fishing trip to a freezer vessel operated by Otakau Fisheries, Ltd. She left on Tuesday to pick up crayfish pots, and when she became overdue other vessels of the fishing fleet began a search for her. The search ended early this afternoon.
