NEW PLAYGROUND AT HEATHCOTE

In an effort to keep young children off the roads, the Heathcote Domains Board has provided a fully-equipped playground in the Heathcote Valley. Costing more than £2OO, the equipment includes four swings, a revolving see-saw, a slide, a “rock-a-bye,” and bars.

Although it has been in operation for barely a month, the playground has proved very popular with children. The ground where the equipment has been set up was originally intended for a croquet green, but because of lack of interest, the plan was dropped. The chairman of the board (Mr J. S. Scott) said last evening that children aged more than 14 were not permitted to use the equipment.

It has been suggested that warning notices to watch out for children should be erected in Port Hills road.
