EXEMPTION FROM TAXATION
Remit To Chambers Of Commerce
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 10.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce is to request the Government to correct what is considered to be a taxation anomaly. This decision, made at the annual conference in Invercargill, asks that the non-pensionable seetion of taxpayers enjoy the special exemptions from - taxation in respect of retiring or superannuation allowances to the same degree as is now enjoyed by certain other sections of taxpayers. Mr C. D. A. George (Wellington), who proposed the remit, said it was desired that persons to whom a pension scheme was not at present available should be able to make tax-free provision equal to those to whom the scheme is available. “There is no doubt that the implementation of this remit would encourage thrift, provide more money for investment, and provide for more adequate income after retirement, thus reducing calls on the Social Security Fund,” said Mr George. “Above all, it provides for equal treatment of all sections of taxpayers, and therefore is a matter of common justice.”
