MARK SEVEN DESTROYED
Jockey Injured In Fall
Mark Seven fractured a shoulder in a fall at the apprentice trials conducted by the Canterbury Jockey Club at Riccarton yesterday and was destroyed. The judicial committee of the club found at an inquiry that the fall was accidental.
Mark Seven’s apprentice rider, L. K. Brougham, received head injuries. He was attended on the course by Dr. J. K. Davidson and was taken to hospital by ambulance. His condition last evening was described as satisfactory. Mark Seven, a four-year-old gelding by Marco Polo II from Shahrazade, was owned and trained at Riccarton by H. O. Baker, who refused four-figure offers for him about this time last year. Mark Seven showed exceptional promise in winning two racep at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting last season. He failed to improve his record early this - season, but after a spell, he was making pleasing progress in preparation for Easter racing at Riccarton.
Mark Seven cost Mr Baker 200gns as a two-year-old at the Winter Bloodstock Sale at Trentham in 1955, when the racing team of Mr R. C. Macfarlane was dispersed. Mr Macfarlane purchased Mark Seven for 625gns at the national sales in 1954.
