Social Security Benefits
Sir, —In answer to ‘‘Still Hoping,” I never thought it would come my way to be able to answer his question why the Government did not pay the 2s 6d a week if a man worked over the au - of 65 years. Here is the answer. While in Christchurch some time back I asked Mr Algie why the Government did not pay t'. e 2s 6d, and the answer was: Mr Holland worked it all out and found the amount was too great to pay out. So now you have it.— Yours, etc., W. G. CRITCHLEY.
Reefton, March 11, 1957. [Through his private secretary, Mr Algie has advised that “in the circumstances he does not feel that any comment is really called for.”]
