Bus Shelters
Sir,—The Midland Bus Company and their obliging drivers give a great service to the community. In the interest of the public travelling north of Papanui, could not the City Council co-operate with the Midland service and erect a shelter at the Victoria square stop. Apart from other patrons, there are many mothers with young children and many school children who catch their bus at this point. With winter approaching, this is indeed a very cold place to wait without shelter. A large number of the patrons are ratepayers and surely some consideration should be given them in this respect.—Yours, etc., FAIR PLAY.
April 5, 1957. [The Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) replied to this letter as follows: “The responsibility for erecting shelters for waiting passengers rests by law with the transport operating organisation. Those erected in the vicinity of Victoria square were erected by the Christchurch Transport Board.”]
