LANCASTER PARK STAND
Plans And Drawings Prepared
Plans and drawings of the proposed members’ stand at Lancaster Park were tabled at a meeting of the Victory Park Board last evening.
The stand was to be built in concrete, said Mr H. C. Blazey. for the joint committee, and would have adequate dressing rooms, showers, and facilities for all sports. On a mezzanine floor there would be a large lounge and afternoon tea buffet and a block of the best seats—3oo for members and 300 for their friends—would be set aside.
“There has been extraordinary interest in this scheme,” said Mr Blazey. “We have prepared a four-page brochure, which sets out the benefits of membership and also gives a short history of the park.”
The closing date for membership applications was June 18. Was there any likelihood that the New Zealand Rugby Union would object? asked Mr D. A. Colville.
There was no need to consider that, replied Mr Blazey. A similar scheme had been operating at Eden Park, Auckland, for some years without difficulty. There was a good sole of grass, reported Mr Colville, for the grounds committee, and the field should be in first-class condition for the Rugby season. Discussing cricket pitches, Mr Colville said: “We have preserved a balance between the bat and the ball . . . the result is a credit to the grounds staff.” The wickets were prepared for three-day games and it had been shown that they stood up well.
