Mr D. M. Cleary is acting High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand until the arrival of Mr George Mallaby next month. Mr Mallaby will succeed Sir Geoffry Scoones, who left for Britain in the Rangitata* from Wellington yesterday.— (P.A.)
Mr D. H. Scott, of Wellington, has been appointed the first honorary trade commissioner for Ceylon m New Zealand.—(P.A.)
Mr C. M. Bennett, Controller of the Maori Welfare Division, is in Christchurch to represent the Maori Affairs Department at the conference of the Maori Women’s Welfare League. Mr Bennett, who retired from the Army as a colonel, was commanding officer of the Maori Battalion and is one of the younger sons of Bishop Bennett.
Miss Vera Howe, of Sydney, has arrived in Christchurch to make advance arrangements for the forthcoming season of Katherine Dunham and l|er company of dancers, singeis, and musicians. Cr. R. G. Brown is one of the City Council’s appointments as a director of the Christchurch Milk Company.
