GROWTH CHAMBER UNIT
Installation At Lincoln
The growth chamber unit at the Crop Research Division, Lincoln, was almost complete, the senior plant breeder, Mr L. G. L. Copp reported to the Wheat Research Committee in Christchurch.
“The artificially - controlled growth chamber is now in operation and will be used by the cereal section to accelerate the early generations of promising crosses, and the production of varieties resistant to specific diseases. Dr. F. Cereal Division, Canadian Department of Agriculture, provided full details of the construction, illumination and cooling of the similar chambers being used succesfully in Canada,” said Mr Copp. “The plants are grown under fluorescent light for 18 hours a day and continuous incandescent light, and it has been possible in Canada to grow five generations of cereals within 14 months,” he Mid.
