Lookaway, which was bracketed with Ruth Again last Saturday, was one of the hottest favourites with doubles betters at Addington for some time. The Rothschild Handicap was the first leg of the double, with Lookaway carrying 48,780 5s tickets in a pool of 103,184. Support for him off-course was more solid than on-course. In a pool of 68,522 tickets from off-course sources, he carried 34,785. Malabella was second favourite on the first leg, with 9356 tickets, of which 4829 came from offcourse. La Mignon was Hhird favourite with 7746 tickets, with Glint, the 5, 6 favourite, next in demand' with 7694 tickets. Glint was second favourite off-course on the double with 5627 tickets. There was a big drop to the fifth favourite on the double, Gay Cobra, which carried 4987 tickets. General Sandy and False Step dominated betting on the second leg, the Rattray Stakes. Between them they had 31,104 tickets redeemed on them, 19,418 being invested on General Sandy. Tactician, the winner of the race, was third favourite with 3840 tickets, followed by Local Light, with 3336. Light Nurse with 2435, the Stadium Chief—Te Koi bracket with 2187 and Blgck Douglas with 2152. Merval carried 1992 tickets and Lady Shona was the outsider with 1705.
The best price on the double was about £5O.
