The paramount chief of Buem State in Southern Togoland today fined his father one live sheep and 12 bottles of schnapps because his father asked him not to hoist the Ghana national flag in the State. The chief’s father is an executive of the Togoland Congress. Twelve other members of the Congress were also fined. The Congress opposed the integration of Togoland into the new State of Ghana. The Congress has lodged an appeal against the fines to the assistant superintendent of police at Hohoe, the main centre of disturbances against Togoland' 1 incorporation into Ghana.
