RACING RHYTHMONIC IN FORM FOR WAIMATE TODAY

Royal Halyard, which has failed ( ja three attempts since being beaten by Humber Hawk in the 4 president's Handicap at Oamaru 4 on December 31, and The Sponsor, , which filled minor places in ( high-weight events at Cromwell, I jnay do best of the others. t Hurdle Race Flying Doctor, third behind Native King and Vocalize in the Allanton Hurdles at Wingatui last month, may have improved sufficienty to win the Waihao Hack Hurdles. * ( With the top-weight, Royal Mail, which is to race at the Birchwood Hunt Club's meeting, missing Escalado and Gazette, i which both worked well in their final trials on Thursday, are most likely to test Flying Doctor. There have been no scratchings in the Trial Plate, in which Bridal Bay. Lightning Boy and Corrie Maris will be favoured. Gay Romeo will be missing from the Novice Handicap, in which Madam Curie, Rendova and Mimbar are expected to dispute the finish. Demolish Favoured Demolish, which has raced cbnfistently for a win and a place in his three starts from the Gore atable of J. and R. Cochrane, is expected to improve on his record in the Sfudholme Hack Handicap. At his last start in the mile Mosgiel Hack Handicap at Wingatui. Demolish, although well beaten by file winner, Martins Bay, was cose up in fourth place, half a length and a head, behind Lady Verona and Tripped. He will not find the smaller Waimate course with its shorter straight as testing as Wingatui and could gain his second win of the season. • Sir Chat, Massanet and Santee may do best of the others. Perfect Peach. which has an alternative engagement in the Morven Welter Handicap, was scratched yesterday for the Waimate Cup. The cup, which is the first leg of the double, has drawn an even field in which Fulgent. Spring Night and Humber • Hawk are likely to find most I favour.

Frasco will be a strong favourite in the second leg of the double, the Hook Hack Handicap. in which Bonny Pippin, a stablemate of Dellar, has been scratched. Frasco’s strongest opponents may be Beau Revere, Helm. Red Elf and the Riccarton-trained Gay Tommy. ’ With Desert Cloud scratched. Teko and Ren way are likely to dispute favouritism for the Morven Welter Handicap which has drawn the smallest field on the card. The other fields are of handy size, and with the interest centred on many of the runners which will be engaged at Oamaru on Monday, the club should be assured of a successful meeting. ■There was rain in South Canterbury on Wednesday and again on Thursday night, and although it was fine in Waimate yesterday, the track, which is carrying a good sole of grass, is expected to be easy.
