Roundabouts

Sir,—Just who is responsible for the thoughtless design of the sandbag and oildrum traffic roundabout at Linwood avenue and on Seaview road? The Linwood avenue one creates a serious traffic bottle-neck for east-bound 5 o’clock traffic, vzhile west-bound buses from New Brighton can negotiate it only with great difficulty. As for the Seaview road one. four or five passengers were thrown right out of their seats (on the 5.12 p.m. Scuth Brighton Thursday bus), one passenger landing heavily on the floor. The zones need to be reduced in length and diameter and so made easy for bus drivers to negotiate. Of what use is it preventing an occasional accident if traffic is delayed and passengers injured in the process?—Yours, etc., PASSENGER. March 22, 1957.
