CRICKET WIN FOR BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL
Match With Christ’s College
Boys’ High School won the annual cricket match against Christ’s College by 36 runs. On the second day, yesterday, at the college ground, the scoring was slow. The pitch was erratic.
Batting by Boys’ High School in* the morning was not good, with the exception of D. Hill who. on a tricky wicket, batted with mature steadiness. College bowlers, especially H. Rutherford, were on top all morning. Rutherford bowled off spins with good control and thoroughly deserved his eight wickets. The college fielding was sound. College batsmen failed against the accurate bowling of R. Hartland and G. Watson until a partnership was formed between R.‘ Latham and T. Bishop. A spirited innings by R. Kelleher towards the close of the match was supported by G. Pickering, and the college score mounted rapidly by fours until the score was 119. when Kelleher was bowled by Watson. Other batsmen did not offer much resistance. The match ended at 5.5 p.m. Scores:— BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL First innings .. .. .. 135 Second Innings D. Hill, hit wicket, b Rutherford 25 I.
