DEATH PENALTY ON AMERICAN
Japanese Court’s Sentence
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) TOKIO, March 20. A Japanese Court today sentenced a United States soldier and his Japanese girl friend to death on charges of murder, robbery and arson. Private Orvis L. C. Boone, of Texas, and a Japanese girl, Shigeko Sasaki, were sentenced to death in spite of prosecution demands that the accused be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Boone had already been sentenced to life imprisonment by a United States court martial for the murder of United States servicemen last July? During court hearings, evidence was given that Boone used Sasaki to lure victims to a predetermined place, where Boone would assault and rob them.
The defendants were found guilty and sentenced to death today for the murder of a Japanese woman at Sindai, northern Japan, last September.
